Daingerfield State Park Star Party INDOOR PRESENTATION ONLY

Daingerfield State Park will host a star party on Friday, December 22nd at the water front (see map). Tentative plans: Solar Viewing from 4pm to Sunset, Moon viewing until 8pm and other celestial objects at 8pm. If the event of cloudy weather, there will be a video presentation on Stars and the sources of the elements in the dining hall. Yes, I know the map is upside down. It is so that North is at the top of the map.

Geminids Meteor Shower Star Party

GEMINIDS METEOR SHOWER, SATURDAY DECEMBER 13 AT MINEOLA NATURE PRESERVE. Sunspot viewing 4pm-5:17pm. Telescope viewing and meteor viewing 5:20 to 11:00pm. Bring a lawn chair (reclining perferred), binoculars, and warm clothing. This is a clear sky event. In the event of cloudy skies, the event will be cancelled. The tentative makeup date would be the next night, December 14th same times. The cancellation notice will be posted on our website: www.asetexas.org or on Face Book : Astronomical Society of East Texas and a "No Star Gazing" sign at the entrance to the Preserve.

STAR GAZING AT MINEOLA NATURE PRESERVE SAT. NOV. 18TH

The Mineola Nature Preserve in conjunction with The Astronomical Society of East Texas will present a STAR GAZING at the Mineola Nature Preserve on Saturday, November 18th. This is a free program and everyone is invited. The activity begins about 7:45 PM so you can see where we will be and will end about 9 PM. Try to arrive by 6:45 PM. The location will be at the Amphitheater next to the Pavilion or the hill just west of Bob’s Pond. The program is a group exercise in identifying objects in the night sky that can be seen with binoculars or the naked eye (Naked Eye Astronomy). We could have a visit from the International Space Station and possible rare signals from Iridium flares that evening. This is a weather permitting program. In the event of inclement weather or cloud cover, the program will be cancelled. A “CANCELLED” notice will be posted in the “Calendar” page of the Society’s website: www.asetexas.org/calendar or our Facebook page on the date, a sign “NO STAR GAZING” will be posted at the Preserve entrance. Please keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately for it. Weather is cooler now but wear clothing to ward off stray mosquitoes. Solar Eclipse Viewing

Members of the Astronomical Society of East Texas will participate in the Total (actually a partial eclipse) Solar Eclipse viewing at Tyler's Discovery Science Place on Monday August 21st. The Starting time is 10am (but come early) until about 3pm. The Maximum amount of the Sun covered by the Moon is 80% at about 1:13pm. Tyler Discovery Science Place is located at 308 N. Broadway Ave. in Tyler Texas just north of the downtown square. Phone 903-533-8011. WARNING!! DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN OR ECLIPSEE WITHOUT EYE PROTECTION. EYE DAMAGE AND BLINDNESS COULD OCCUR. SUNGLASSES ARE NOT SAFE! WELDERS LENSES MUST BE SHADE 14+.

Perseids Meteor Shower and Star Party CANCELLED!!!!

THE PERSEIDS METEOR SHOWER AT THE MINEOLA NATURE PRESERVE IS CANCELLED!!! DUE TO THUNDERSTORM BUILDING IN THE AREA AND THE OUTFLOW AIR CREATING MORE FROM 6-9PM, AND THAT HEAVY LIGHTNING IS ASSOCIATED WITH THESE STROMS. THE PERSEIDS METEOR SHOWER STAR PARTY IS CANCELLED. WE WILL TO DO ANOTHER IN THE FALL. The Mineola Nature Preserve in conjunction with The Astronomical Society of East Texas will present a Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing and Star Party at the Mineola Nature Preserve on Saturday, Aug. 12th. This is a free program and everyone is invited. The activity begins about 5:30 PM with Sunspot viewing until sunset and telescope viewing begins at twilight and will end after midnight+. The location will be the East Parking Lot, above the pavilion, so please park in the West Parking Lot. The International Space Station will do a flyover just after 9pm. Please bring a blanket or lawn chairs. A reclining lawn chair works the best. Binoculars or your telescope are welcome. This is a weather permitting program. In the event of inclement weather or cloud cover, the program will be postponed or cancelled. Summer 2017 Quarterly Meeting Astronomical Society of East Texas

SUMMER 2017 MEETING OF ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY OF EAST TEXAS The summer quarterly meeting of the Astronomical Society of East Texas will be held 28 July 2017 on the campus of Tyler Junior College in room 227 of the Genecov Science building located just south of the corner of E. Lake St. and S. Mahon Ave. starting at 7pm. A presentation on the Total Solar Eclipse, next month, will be given. Plans for a public viewing of the eclipse will be discussed, also. Anyone have an interest in the Society or the August 2017 Total Solar Eclipse are invited to attend. Parking will be in Parking Lot F-5 just south of E. Lake and S. Mahon. Use the parking lot level entrance on the NE corner of Genecov. Go up two flight of stairs and straight ahead to Room 227(Next to last door on your right.). CESSE Star Parties CLOUDY MAR 4!

Star Parties at the Center for Earth and Space Science Education (CESSE)at Tyler Junior College will host star parties on February 4th , March 4th and April 1. The Center will sponsor FREE planetarium shows beginning at 8 pm and they will continue to run every 30 minutes with the last show starting at 9pm om each date. Also on these dates, IF THE WEATHER IS CLEAR, the Astronomical Society of East Texas will provide telescope view of celestial object in the center courtyard. Viewing will begin after twilight.
