CANCELLED !!!! STAR GAZING AT THE MINEOLA NATURE PRESERVE

EVENT CANCELLED !!!!! DUE TO THE OSCILLATING MOVEMENT OF A COLD FRONT THAT MIGHT RETURN CLOUDS AND POSSIBLE SHOWS THIS EVENING, THE STAR GAZING EVENT WILL BE CANCELLED FOR THIS EVENING. The Mineola Nature Preserve in conjunction with The Astronomical Society of East Texas will present a STAR GAZING at the Mineola Nature Preserve on Friday, March 16, 2018. This is a free program and everyone is invited. The activity begins about 8:00 PM so you can see where we will be and will end about 10 PM. Try to arrive by 7 PM. The location will be at the Amphitheater next to the Pavilion. The program is a group exercise in identifying objects in the night sky that can be seen with binoculars or the naked eye (Naked Eye Astronomy). We could have a visit from the International Space Station and possible rare signals from Iridium flares that evening. This is a weather permitting program. In the event of inclement weather or cloud cover, the program will be cancelled. A “CANCELLED” notice will be posted in the “Calendar” page of the Society’s website: www.asetexas.org/calendar or our Facebook page on the date, a sign “NO STAR GAZING” will be posted at the Preserve entrance. Please keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately for it. Weather is cooler now but wear clothing to ward off stray mosquitoes. SCHOOL NIGHT FOR ASTRONOMY

The Astronomical Society of East Texas has rescheduled SCHOOL NIGHT FOR ASTRONOMY, an astronomical viewing at the Mineola Nature Preserve on Tues., March 13, 2018. This is open to the public and is especially for all public, private and home school students and their parents. The program will begin about 5:30pm with solar viewing until sunset. Celestial viewing will follow at 8:30 pm. The event will conclude by 11:00pm. This is a weather permitting event. In the event of rain or clouds, the event will be cancelled. An announcement of cancellation will on our website: www.asetexas.org/calendar and our Facebook page. There will be a “No Star Gazing “ sign at the preserve entrance. Makeup date will be the 15th of March. Dress properly for the weather conditions. Be prepared for Mosquitoes-long pants, long sleeves. NO SPRAY INSECT REPELLENT!
